Hanabusa, Puna Residents Want Vote Delayed

Hanabusa, Puna Residents Want Vote Delayed
Posted August 13th, 2014 @ 4:01pm

The state Office of Elections scheduled a special election Friday for voters in two districts in Puna, where the voting places were being used as emergency shelters. That decision has angered some residents who say the office has its priorities in the wrong place. Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa is planning to file a suit with the Supreme Court of Hawaii asking for a restraining order delaying Friday's makeup vote. She believes Puna residents need more time to recover from the storm. The special election is set to take place at Keonepoko Elementary School on Friday, from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
