The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office has identified the boy who died while at an outing at Kapena Falls Monday as 17-year-old Leighton Mow of Honolulu. He was a student at Moanalua High School. Mow had been with a group friends who arrived at Kapena Falls, off the Pali Highway in Nuuanu, sometime after 9 a.m. He went to the restroom and when he didn't return friends called his parents who arrived at the falls. Fire rescuers were called at 2:15 p.m. Mow's body was found at the bottom of the pool at 3 p.m. Witnesses said they didn't know whether the boy slipped, fell, or jumped into the water.
