Posted May 12th, 2014 @ 1:31pm

Maui police suspect speed and the use of a mobile electronic device caused a crash early this morning in Kihei. The driver of a 2004 Nissan lost control of his vehicle on Piilani Highway near Liopa Street, crossed the center line and rolled over on the shoulder at about 3 a.m. The driver, identified as Terrance Kyle Morgan of Kihei, died at the scene. Morgan's passenger, a 21-year-old Kihei man, suffered minor injuries. Police said Morgan was not wearing a seat belt and the vehicle's airbags deployed during the crash. His passenger was wearing his seatbelt. Police are still investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
